3 Ways To Help Your Kids Learn About The Saints

Hebrews 12:1 reads, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us.”

We have a great cloud of witnesses eager to see us grow with God! The saints lived through so many of the same joys, accomplishments, fears, and sufferings that we go through today. If you want to pass the Catholic faith on to your child it is absolutely vital that you help them develop a relationship with the saints. Here are three ways you can connect your child with the saints:

1. Start with the Interests of your Child(ren)

Sometimes we are too quick to throw our favorite saints at our child(ren) and expect them to begin an immediate devotion. Consider the interests of your little one(s) and then together you can search for a saint who shared that interest. Kids are much more inclined to begin a devotion if they really feel connected to the saint. Although there is yet to be a “Patron Saint of Play-Doh” there is a Patron Saint of Music (St. Cecilia,) and a Patron Saint of Athletes (St. Sebastian.)

2. Share your own testimony

While you don’t want to “shove” your favorite saint onto your child(ren), it may be very helpful for them to hear why you have a special devotion to a particular saint. Think back to your childhood and try to remember if there were any times St. Anthony really came through, or a time when you could tell St. Monica was praying for you as much as she prayed for St. Augustine. Kids appreciate authenticity and it’s a great way to start a conversation about what sainthood really means.

3. Get the Little Saint Adventures™ APP

Your child(ren) can spend time with St. Francis of Assisi and other saints in the Little Saint Adventures app, available on Google Play and iTunes. There are interactive games, songs, quizzes, and more that teach almost every aspect of the Catholic faith. From the saints to the sacraments, from Bible stories to Church liturgy...and everything in between!

Little Saint Adventures™

Catholic art has a place, but a graphic portrait of St. Francis’ stigmata may be a bit much for a young child! This guy will probably be more helpful!
