Three Prayers Children Can Memorize

“Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God.” - 2226 Catechism of the Catholic Church

According to the Catechism, it is every Catholic parent’s mission to teach their children to pray, but where do you begin?

As with all things, it is essential not only to instruct children to pray but to lead by example. Take every opportunity to turn to God and invite Him into your family. Your children are watching!

Begin with short, simple prayers that are easy for children to memorize.

Here are 3 prayers to get you started:

1. When I am afraid, I will trust in you O God. - Psalm 56:3

2. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. - The Jesus Prayer

3. Thank you for the world so sweet. Thank you for the food we eat. Thank you for the birds that sing. Thank you God for everything. - Traditional Children’s Prayer

Don’t forget to remind your children that they can tell God anything, anywhere, at anytime! He is always listening and ready to help them.
