“Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God.” - 2226 Catechism of the Catholic Church
As with all things, it is essential not only to instruct children to pray but to lead by example. Take every opportunity to turn to God and invite Him into your family. Your children are watching!
1. When I am afraid, I will trust in you O God. - Psalm 56:3
2. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. - The Jesus Prayer
3. Thank you for the world so sweet. Thank you for the food we eat. Thank you for the birds that sing. Thank you God for everything. - Traditional Children’s Prayer
Don’t forget to remind your children that they can tell God anything, anywhere, at anytime! He is always listening and ready to help them.
The Little Saint Adventures app is another great tool that will encourage your children to come to God in prayer. The latest update to the app includes a new world to explore, Avila’s Castle. With St. Teresa as their guide, children engage in games and activities that will focus on how and why to pray, different forms of prayer, and creating a prayer space in their home.
